Why do we only use particular selections? and how they are used?

At Clean Burn Candle we use essential oils that are basic and not complex because it is safer and easier to manage with less combinations. We want them to be relaxing or uplifting but most of all easy to use and not hard to understand. Below are images explaining what we use and there uses too.

Essential oils are so confusing , today I spent the day researching again the 15 Essential Oils I use in my candles and my blends

My conclusion is the same. All essential oils are to be used

in a well ventilated room
always dilute with water or use a carrier oil
Use essential oils in moderation
do not ingest
consult a doctor for more information
keep out of reach from children and pets so they don’t drink the water or eat any candles.
all though natural , in nature some things are toxic to pets and humans

When using any new essential oil test a scent when introducing it to the room with pets present and watch for reactions like drooling .When used on or around pets, the following Essential Oils are often reputed to cause skin irritation, breathing difficulties, uncomfortable cooling effects, changes in alertness, weakness or fatigue, stumbling, vomiting, and paralysis, among various other potential effects. This list contains oils that are considered safe for children ages 2 and up. It does not take into consideration that everyone is different so if any negative outcomes occur, discontinue use. I will also add to the list below my allergen findings too!

Candle Care for a longer lasting candle

Use these ‘save measures’ when your candle is lit :
Ensure that you use a stable level surface away from drafts, curtains, pets and children.

Here’s how to have the cleanest burn and care for your candles

1- Select a place away from direct sunlight for your candle then trim your wick before lighting to 5mm.

2- Once you light your candle allow it to burn for 1 hour or until the wax pool reaches the side of the candle vessel for even wax distribution and prevent a tunnel.

3-Do not burn for more than 4 hours as to keep the container from getting too hot or cracking.

4- Use a wick hook to turn out your candle simply dip the wick into the wax it will create a coating, reduce smoke and create a better burn next time. Put the lid on to maintain your candles scent and clean from dust particles.

5- On your next burn, trim your wick and remove any debris. We sell a candle tool kit that has a wick trimmer in it. They do make this process a lot easier with no mess!

What is a toxin, what you should know and how to use candles safely.

What are the risks associated with toxic candles?

Evidence of negative health effects associated with conventional candles is still inconclusive. Still, there is some concern that volatile organic compounds can be released into the air when a candle burns. To avoid even potential health risks, it’s a good idea to burn candles like Clean Burn Candle that are made with plant-based waxes, toxin free fragrance, and cotton wicks.

What is a Volatile organic compound?

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. Concentrations of many VOCs are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors. A range of these vocs can release via synthetic compounds including house hold cleaning products, fragrances, paints, glues and so much more .

However, to date, research hasn’t linked scented candles with a health risk.

Now I’ve done my part to bring you the best selection of candles, but you must do your part now when you take home your Clean Burn Candle to make it as efficient as possible

here is how:

Trim your wicks to 5mm or less to minimise smoke and soot
Keep away from drafts this will cause soot and the candle to over consume.
Use in a well-ventilated area not too closed in. For example, keep a door open rather than closing yourself into a space.
Burn for an hour or until wax melts to its edge and no longer than 4 hours. Usually, a candle will start to soot at this time due to heat.
Dip the wick into the wax to turn out the candle for zero smoke release see my video on this
Then on your next burn trim the wick and repeat above process.

As for safety:

Never leave a candle unattended
Keep candles away from combustible materials
Keep away from pets and children place them out of reach
In general, burning candles properly in your home is not likely to be toxic or harmful to your health. Candles are safe even though they might trigger allergies, asthma, or migraines. There are some ways to make candles even safer for your indoor air.

Proper ventilation. The problem with candle emissions is not necessarily the emission levels but poor ventilation. Only burn candles in a well-ventilated room. Open a window while it’s burning but keep the candle out of the draft.‌
Burn natural candles. Paraffin candles release different chemicals. Switch to, soy, or coconut oil-based candles. Make sure it’s not mixed with paraffin 100% natural soy like ours here at Clean Burn Candle.

What is a toxin, what you should know and how to use candles safely.

Candles why are they triggers for allergy and asthma sufferers?

People who have these conditions have inflamed airways. They are more sensitive to chemical irritation this can lead to flare-ups. Fragrance is a common trigger and yes candles use fragrances. Some candle makers use paraffin, and this is also a trigger.

Note *All of Clean Burn Candles are paraffin free.

Candle allergy symptoms include:

Runny nose
Watery eyes
Sneezing
Stuffy nose
Tightness in your chest
Possibly hives or skin rashes
For me also tummy aches and irritable bowel

Headaches or migraines

Smells are known triggers for migraines or headaches around 95% of migraine patients say they are sensitive to smell, and it can worsen their migraines or headache. Most common causes are car fumes, cigarette smoke and fragrance.

So, we cater to the allergy sufferers by offering unscented, essential oil candles and natural candles that also are selected with only aromas that do not cause triggers like pine, tea tree, eucalyptus and more.

In saying this there are some fragrances that are lower in sensitivities and the use of them including the rate in which they are used can be lessened to reduce the effect. Here at Clean Burn Candle, we add between 6-8% fragrance load. Our fragrances are all approved by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), compliant and certified.

Our natural fragrances are made with a minimum of 80% plant-based ingredients and essential oils and fixed with a synthetic plant-based propylene glycol to ensure the scent is long lasting. They are phthalate free, vegan and cruelty free. They do not contain UV inhibitors, paraffin, mineral or palm oil.

In society we love things that are strong and give a kick this makes us feel like we are in a fresh smelling place the natural scents do this but not with the kick. They are present and gentle allowing the scent to be subtle and a cleaner smell.

To have the kick you are looking for fragrances are the answer. Not all of them are for everyone and you must still select carefully because they are stronger minus the irritants but with the kick, so you have to be able to tolerate smell.

Fragrances are made with a combination of synthetic and natural components. To ensure the stability of a more complex scent. Some scents can not be made naturally so they are created. I keep it simple if you cannot distil it into an oil like say a pear or banana than it is man-made.

Our fragrance oils there are some Australia Made and others that are international.

Our Australia made are entirely phthalate and paraben free. They are- Calabria, La Lotus, 1 in a million, Espresso, Into the Woods, ME, Tiamo, Blue, Teatime.

Our Phthalate and paraben free IFRA approved fragrances include Caramella, Luxe, Uno,Paradiso, Passione, Zesty Coco, Jam Donut.

Our phthalate free IFRA approved are Coca Cola, Cointreau, Raspberry Kisses, Tonka bean and Vanilla, Cristalli Di Mare, Amante and Crema.

What is a phthalate? Is a group of chemicals used to make plastic durable and flexible in a word it is plastic.

Both elements are passed via urine and are quickly excreted.

How? we created our own product recycling system. You may wonder why costs of candles get so pricey? It’s due to shipping costs, insurances, printing, stickers, packaging and more packaging. So in order to be more sustainable we have to start thinking outside the box and so that’s what we did!

How to Clean your empty candle jars

How to Clean your empty candle jars

Place your candle in the freezer if there is any wax left in it.
Leave for 30 minutes.
Take out of the freezer.
Use a wooden spatula or a spoon to pull away the wax from the sides.
Use soapy warm water not over 80 Degrees Celsius and remove any remainder wax and residue.
Dry with a gentle cloth
Do not put the candle vessel in the dishwasher it will damage paintwork.
Or use water heated up to 60-70 degrees or cooled boiled water to melt the wax and clean out the candle vessel. Always use a gentle cloth and nothing abrasive it will damage the paint work.
